Arma Guides / Arma Primer: Radio Man

So, you wanna call in the big guns huh? Well, with the Role of radioman, that is right up your alley. As a Radio man you will work with your squad/team leader at a very close level. Sometimes, if your fire-team cannot facilitate having a radio man, so you may end up working at the higher level. Enough with the typical stuff you will hear from a JTAC or ATC.

With regards to being the Radio Man, not everyone is cut for it and that is okay. Coordinating with multiple groups at one time can be stressful, but with a little bit of training and a good team, your job should be as easy as "see the green smoke? Yeah, good that's us, drop everything you got about 300 meters outside that smoke"

The general purpose behind the Radioman is so that a secure and able connection can be made with Command as well as any assets or groups that do not roll with you on the norm. That may include some armor groups such as IFVs (Bradleys, APCs Etc..), Armor Platoons and/or Companies, as well as Air Assets or the glorious gun birds as some of us in the community call them. Always remember, the code: BROKEN ARROW, is used in emergency situations ONLY.. Please don't go around just calling it for the hell of it.

Typically, a Radio man is covered in more radios than he is mags, and has more gear for his map than the engineers have for a Tank. Make sure to use those tools to mark out gun and bombing runs for the fly boys over head, because trust me, it is better to be safe than sorry. Be ready to wonder why you are constantly thinking your name is being called, because it probably is by someone. If you feel up to calling for support or giving the enemy a world of 30mm AutoCannon, look no further than the Radio Man.

To access the Personal Radio, Ctrl+P is the way to go, you will have to point and click to program it, but it gets smoother once you break the buttons in. For the Heavy piece of Radioactive Material fused... I mean worn on your back, Alt+P will open the programming screen and for both of those, there are options to use the built in speakers or keep in your headset and how loud it will be as well as what channels are programmed to what frequencies.
The Long Range Radio that you will typically find on a Radio Operator is the RT-1523G [ASIP] Big (You can go with any of the variety, as long as it is a Big Radio Pack)

The frequencies that are currently in use by the 61st are as follows:
Local/Personal Radio : Channel 111
Long Range Radio Primary: Channel 50
Long Range Radio Secondary/Air to Ground: Channel 77

Task Force Arrowhead Radio, or TFAR can be a tricky mistress when she wants to be, but very simple once configured to your liking. The dreaded CAPS LOCK BUtton.. It finally has a purpose other than to annoy everyone! The Caps lock button is the primary local/personal radio transmit button. Always remember, keep comms short, sweet and to the point. A simple way to memorize the order in which a Radio call will go is "Hey you (You being the person you are contacting), It's Me and then the message"

Alt+Caps lock will activate the long range radio in Aircraft, Armor, Vehicles or the one on your back and send radio waves a very considerable 10-20km away! If you have a button that you use typically for a PTT in other applications, it will be the perfect key for TFAR. I personally configured it to my mouse for quick access while in the middle of a engagement.

Welcome to the Arma Primer: Machine Gunner guide. In this guide we will go over the basic kit, duties, and overall role of a machine gunner within the squad.

About your basic kit. It will be as the rifleman basic kit with a few differences. First replace your rifle with a machine gun. It is your choice on if you want a light or medium machine gun. Secondly we will also have to replace the ammo you carry. Since this is a machine gun you are going to want no less than 500 rounds, but anything 500 - 800 should be plenty. I recommend stuffing extra rounds into a backpack so that you can drop it if you need to move faster. I also recommend taking straight tracer, I personally prefer red tracers but whatever fits your fancy will work. Finally you will be getting rid of the M72A7 LAW. It is just going to be weighing you down and you already have a heavy enough load. If you need one there should be a dead rifleman nearby with one anyhow.

For upgrades I recommend carrying more ammo. Frags won't help much as the enemy shouldn't be that close to you most of the time. Extra smoke grenades might be nice to have. Beyond that you will spend ammo in belts so having more keeps you useful longer.

Your job, obvious though it might be, is quite simple put out as much fire onto enemies as you can. You should be firing burst of 3 - 5 rounds at enemies and the suspected positions of enemies. Your teammates will adjust their fire off of your tracers. This means that if you see something put rounds out while you are calling it out. Your allies will already be looking for it and they can use the tracers to help zero into it. Your job is not generally to carry people back out of a firefight, or to charge into buildings. You may have to do those things but by and large having you watching areas and denying the enemy movement is a better use of your gun.

Lets now talk about your gun. Machine guns come in three flavors: Light, Medium, and Heavy. These are generally classed based on the caliber of the round coming out of them, so 5.56, 7.62, and .50 cal respectively for NATO guns. The other way these classifications are used is based on the job they do. Lights are more mobile and can be lugged around easily and generally set up without anything more than a bipod. Mediums may or may not have a tripod (in arma they usually don't) and are generally heavier and harder to move about with and can be used in a vehicle mount. Finally Heavies typically are only used on either a tripod or a vehicle mount and are reserved for prepared positions. You can use heavies as a regular machine gun, but they demand 2 people. One to carry the gun, one to carry the tripod.

The Game Specific Rules - Arma:
• If you wish to Play Arma with us, please message one of the @Admins  or @Planning/Moderation
• Do not give out the Server Password. If you or someone else needs the Password, contact a @Admins / @Planning/Moderation
• You are required to be on TeamSpeak to use TaskForceRadio while during an OP
 - If we are not doing an OP, you are free to join the server and play. It is preferred for you to be on Teamspeak so people can talk with you.
• This is a CO-OP server. Teamkilling/Griefing other players is prohibited
 -Minor exception given to end of Ops since we can all get a bit...trigger happy.

The Game Specific Rules - Minecraft:
• No Griefing
• We have a Co-Op, PVE server. Do not cause confict by attacking other players
• No Stealing, Public Chests will be available
• If in Dispute, contact a mod on discord to assist
• Do not crowd areas, give people room to build.
 -If you claim somewhere, do not ghost it.
• No mods or hacks
 -On the modded server, this means do not have additional mods than the stated modpack.

The Teamspeak Specific Rules:
• Do not sit in the Guest Lobby
• To do anything, you must be Tagged. Contact a @Mod or @Admin to do this
• Do not leave your mic open.



Failure to follow rules:

We will operate on a 3 strike basis.

First Strike: Verbal/Chat Warning from any Mod/Admin.

Second Strike: DM'd Warning from an @admin. Placing of member on probation. Member will be monitored by Mods/Admins. Possible forfeit of ability to participate in clan events for a period of time.

Third Strike: Expulsion from Clan and Servers.

If you’re not willing to promote a healthy environment and/or uphold a respect for the clan’s, and fellow clanmate’s, reputation. If it is determined that a member’s continual participation will result in further problems or the offense is extreme, we may remove someone before the third strike.

At the discretion of the Moderation/Admin Staff, three strikes may be issued in special circumstances.
